This project will be 25% of assessment in Construction Information Systems.
The project submission will consist of a series of linked spreadsheets on a computer disk and an instruction manual for the application your team develops.
The manual is to be presented in an appropriate format on A4 paper suitably bound in a cover and it must be word processed.
Presentation, conciseness, usefulness, thorough research and relevance of material will be rewarded.
All sources are to be acknowledged and correctly referenced. You will be required to form a group of 4 or 5 for this assignment in week 1.
First of all, each student in the group will need to work on his/her individual project (10 mark will be awarded for individual contribution) then the task for your group is to prepare an application using linked spreadsheets to assist with the contract administration for a builder on multiple projects.
You can decide on the size of the builder and the size of the projects by assuming that the projects are running at any one time and your application must match your builder’s requirements.
A short statement of assumptions must be included with the manual. The features of your system will vary depending on your builder’s management structure and the type of work. Suggested features that could be included are listed below. It is essential; however, that you incorporate good practice for information systems design into your application taking into account the theory we will cover in these areas. Your group must prepare an instruction manual that identifies all the features of your application and instructs the user on how to use the program. You can assume that the user is familiar with the spreadsheet package being used.
The manual should also include a flow chart giving an overview, examples of input screens and examples of output reports that the system will produce.
Your application must be developed using one of the common spreadsheet packages available on the university’s computer network such as Excel.
It must consist of multiple spreadsheets linked into the one integrated contract administration package that has various levels of input and output to suit management of the company and the projects.
You may get assistance from the lecturer, other students or externally when developing your application, so long as you acknowledge their assistance. No marks will be deducted for this; it is what you are expected to do.
Your final application will receive a group mark based on the quality of the application and the manual.
Each individual must have a thorough understanding of the entire application and manual and will be individually assessed through quiz.

Resources:
Based on latest version of Microsoft Excel. Students must complete all the spreadsheet tutorials scheduled during weeks 2-7.
Collect real world data from at least three medium size project ($1 million to $10 million) or student can use the building design from the unit Graphic Design and Communication and data quantities from Quantity Surveying 1.
