The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow students to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the DB question. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each unit.

Research the main professional organizations of the human resources profession, such as the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), pick one professional discipline and address the following:

1. Discuss the history of the discipline.

2. What is the requirement for education and experience for the discipline?

3. What are the certifications for this discipline?

4. How the specialty is generally applied in organizations?

5. Do you see yourself as potentially working in this discipline, why or why not?

Describe the role of the EEOC and choosing one element of category of Discrimination by Type such as; Age, Disability, National Origin, etc., explain the role of the EEOC in that category and the responsibilities of employers in that category

A client has asked you to help them retain talented workers. They are facing high turnover in their engineering departments. They are unsure what is creating this problem but exit interviews with the engineers have indicated that there may be a problem with a lack of upward mobility. Discuss aspects of career planning that the organization can use to retain highly talented staff. Use examples of organizations that have career planning systems such as succession planning, education assistance etc. as part of their strategic human resources tools.

Discussion 4

Outsourcing work to other countries is problematic for organizations. You have taken on a new client that wants to outsource much of it customer care center to another country. The driving business need for the organization is that the current call center overhead is driving down the bottom line. Moving the call center offshore to Asia will mean the loss of over 120 jobs at their South Carolina center. Discuss the legal, moral and business implications of such a move, including the impact to workforces in both countries.
