1. Summarize the article, and discuss the main points of the article.

2. Explain how the article addresses the theoretical aspects of project management.

3. Discuss the relevance of this article with respect to the development of project scope and the organizational structure of the project.

All sources used must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations in APA style.

Unit II Case Study

Case studies are an important learning strategy in business classes (particularly at the master’s level) as they provide an opportunity for you to critically analyze events that have taken place in real-life businesses. This develops your critical thinking and research skills as you research the competition and industry in which your business resides with an end goal of formulating a recommendation for the challenges faced by the company.

Review the article “Power of Persuasion” by D. Brox starting on page 141 of your textbook, and respond to each of the questions using both theory and practical managerial thinking as well as supporting research.

Choose two of the six core project management traits that you feel are most important when negotiating in a project setting. Explain and support your choices.

Give an example (real or fictional) that demonstrates the importance of your two chosen traits in project management negotiations.

Explain how the triple constraints (scope, schedule, and cost) could affect a project manager’s negotiations during the project.

Explain the benefits and challenges of keeping the key stakeholders informed at various progress points during the project.

In formatting your case analysis, do not use the question-and-answer format; instead, use an essay format with headings. Your APA-formatted case study should be a minimum of two pages in length (not including the title and reference pages). You are required to use a minimum of three academic sources that are no more than 5 years old (one may be your textbook). All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased material must have accompanying in-text citations.

Explain the risks associated with your new organizational structure on the overall organization and the effectiveness of a project management system, including discussion around project scope and structure.

Describe the Key Management Incentive Program (KMIP) and how it would be impacted by your new organizational structure. Address any challenges that might arise with the implementation of the new organizational structure. Describe how changes in organizational structure and scope might impact the overall project management process at Acorn.

Explain the project planning and scheduling techniques used at Heublein.

Describe the theoretical aspects of budgeting discussed in Chapter 7. Explain how Heublein might use these budgeting

concepts in the overall management of this project.

What do you recommend for Heublein going forward?

Your response should be a minimum of two pages in length and follow APA style guidelines. References should include your textbook and a minimum of one additional credible source. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations in APA style.

2. What are the process resource allocations and your recommended monitoring processes?

3. How might the project manager at Nutristar incorporate simulation analysis into his or her risk analysis process?

Your response should be a minimum of two pages in length and follow APA style. References should include your textbook and a minimum of one additional credible source. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations in APA style.

Unit 1 discussion

Part 1: Introduce yourself to your fellow students and instructor. Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? What is your major? What is your career? Include a fun fact about yourself as well.

Part 2: In Units VII and VIII of this course, you will submit a comprehensive project plan and a PowerPoint presentation (see the details in the syllabus). In this unit, start thinking about your topic for your project plan. For this discussion board post, describe your topic ideas for your final project and presentation. Discuss if this is a personal project, a workplace project, or a civic project. Examples of potential projects might be a construction project at your home, the planning of a wedding or other celebration, or any other personal endeavor that requires multiple steps. It can be a project you are currently working on or one that you would like to take on in the future. Describe your ideas for your project plan. It is acceptable to have multiple ideas at this point.

Unit 2 discussion

Review the case analysis, “Incidents For Discussion: Pritchard Soap Co.” on pages 138-139 of your textbook, which illustrates the problems that can arise when project managers are not good communicators. Discuss your own strengths and weaknesses as a communicator, and describe how you will capitalize on your strengths and mitigate your weaknesses when leading a project team. Consider how you will apply project management communication strategies to your final project due in Units VII and VIII.

Unit 3 discussion

Your final project for this course is due in Unit VII (final project plan) and Unit VIII (presentation). For this discussion board post, discuss your progress on your project plan. What progress have you made on the required elements for the project plan (i.e., project overview, project mission statement and scope statement, project schedule and control, project management structure and budget, work breakdown structure, risk management process, project communication, project closure)? What stumbling blocks are you running into? What questions do you have for your instructor on the final project plan?

Unit 4 discussion

Why is it important to reduce risk in a project? Discuss your thoughts on how the financial aspects of a project are interrelated to risk assessment. How are you planning to employ risk planning into your final project for this course?

Unit 5 discussion

Discuss how you might utilize some of the project management scheduling tools discussed in this unit in your final project. Discuss the progress you are making on your project (due in Unit VII) and presentation (due in Unit VIII). What resources have you found most useful when preparing your project?

Unit 6 discussion

n page 386 of your textbook (at the end of chapter 9 under Reading: Let the games begin), review the Project Management in Practice. This explains how the Olympic Games are scheduled using project management software. Think about some of the extra schedule conflicts beyond changes in weather that might occur at the Olympics dealing with global participants and guests to the event. Bring to the discussion details of issues that past Olympic Games have had to overcome. How might scheduling concepts learned during this course minimize some of these conflicts?

Unit 7 discussion

Reflect on this unit’s reading, and think about the evaluation of a project being a means of control. Discuss how you incorporated the concepts of evaluation and control into your final project plan.

Unit 8 discussion

Think about topics learned during this course. What topic or assignment did you find most interesting? What topic or assignment did you find most challenging? How might you apply some of the project management concepts we studied in this course to both your professional and personal life? What suggestions can you offer for improvement of this course for future students? Please be honest, your feedback helps us improve our courses (and will not affect your grade, I promise!)
