Task:

Imagine you are advising a company (from a country and an industry of your choice) that is considering expanding business to foreign countries. 1. Choose a developing country and a developed country and undertake in-depth research and analysis of both countries. 2. Critically analyse what factors need to be taken into consideration in deciding where and which entry mode is most appropriate. Apply relevant academic theories to illustrate your answer.

1. When marking your essay I will be assessing your knowledge and understanding of the theories and concepts needed to answer your essay question and your ability to apply this understanding to real cases/examples.

2. The maximum word-count is 3000 words, excluding references and appendices.

3. Essay Structure: 

Introduction: states what question is being addressed in the essay and why it is interesting and important. An essay question can be answered in different ways so say how you plan to answer the question. You also need to indicate what the structure of the essay will be.

Main Body: This is where your arguments are developed fully. Make sure that your arguments are set out in a logical order and that any of your opinions follow from the line of reasoning that you have followed. It is important to sum up an argument before going on to the next section, or start a new section with a summary of what has been argued so far. This allows the reader to keep up with the thread of your argument. When using data and diagrams, make sure that you use material that is relevant to your argument. Sub-headings are often useful as a guide to the reader. Above all you must make sure you answer the essay question.

Conclusion: In this section you should summarise the main arguments you have made, bringing them together into a final overview.

Referencing: Make sure that you reference your essay correctly. Avoid using expressions such as “it is said…” or “some people argue …” – instead discuss the specific arguments of named authors. Also avoid long quotes from a publication (this suggests that you have not understood the author you are quoting): it is important to have the key ideas in your own words. Only refer to works that you have consulted yourself. Essays are checked for plagiarism.
