While BMI does NOT indicate body composition (only weight relative to height), we can use BMI (along with other predictive factors like age and gender) to ESTIMATE your body composition. Estimate your percent fat from the following equation:
Percent fat = (1.46 x BMI) + (0.12 x age) – (11.61 x gender) – 10.02
Note: Age is in years; and for gender male = 1, female = 0
4. Record your results from #2 and #3 below and indicate how your values are classified (find the “optimal range” of fat for your age and sex in Table 7.2 on p. 37).
