Case Study Using Word, Excel and PowerPoint

OBJECTIVE

This course requires the application of concepts learned to a real-world business case. The following case study aims to help you reach that goal.

• You will work in teams (3-4 students) that will be assigned in Week 1.
• Carefully pick one of the 500 fortune companies and follow its market trend.
• This case study has two parts and a presentation. In the first part, students must demonstrate their ability to create a word document, formatting of word document (font 12 points, Times New Roman, different levels of headings and indenting).
• In the second part, students will demonstrate their ability to create an Excel document and use basic Excel functions as well as generate graphs.
• In the presentation, students will demonstrate their ability to utilize features of PowerPoint to present information from both parts of the case study.
• This is a collaborative effort, therefore, the use of WebEx, Cisco Spark or a similar tool will be used to facilitate group collaboration.

REQUIREMENTS

Company Selection

(Due Week 1): Each team will select a Fortune 500 Company and submit a brief overview of that company.

Case Study Part 1 (Due Week 3):

The first part of this case study will be a paper on the description of the company you have chosen. Each team will submit a paper of at least 500 words, not including title page and references that will provide a complete description of the company including the nature of its business. The team will use at least two sources plus the course textbook, for a minimum of three references.

Case Study Part 2 (Due week 7)

The second part of the case study requires the team to use Excel to study the trend of this company’s stocks, producing an Excel spreadsheet that incorporates basic Excel functions and graphs.

Presentation (Due Week 8):

Your team will prepare a narrated PowerPoint presentation and present the information from both parts of the case study. Each team member must participate in the presentation. The presentation will be posted for review and evaluation by others in the class.

A narrated PowerPoint, using Voicethread or similar tool will be used to demonstrate your results.
