Select a news article dated within the previous two months and analyze the issue
using the economic concepts and theory learned in this class. Include at least one
graph developed in our course. Possible concepts include:
• taxes and consumer or producer surplus
• demand, supply, and equilibrium price of a particular product
• elasticity of a particular product
• perfect competition and imperfect competition, such as monopolies
• labor market, wages, and income inequality
• poverty and public policy
• another topic selected by the professor

GUIDELINES
The course paper/case study project should exhibit your understanding of
economics concepts by discussion of a real-world, current events article in the
news in the context of the concepts studied here. You will be rated on your ability
to bring the real-world topic into the framework of the models which you have
studied during the course.
Your submission should be 6-7 double spaced pages in length. Please use 10-point
Times New Roman or other standard font only. Your paper should include the
following: 1) cover page, 2) appendix including any lengthy numerical calculations
and all illustrative graphs, and 3) bibliography page. These pages shall not be
included in your 6-7 page requirement.
All direct quotes should be appropriately punctuated with quotation marks and the
correct in-text citations according to the APA manual style of writing. The exact way
in which you cite a source is less important than citing all relevant sources without
overdoing it. Your research should include at least 4-5 reliable references in
addition to the article of your choice which you are focusing your case study on.
Your references page shall also be included according the APA manual style of
writing. Please refer to the syllabus for guidelines on reliable sources. Beware
Wikipedia and other non-academic sources. Use Wikipedia if you like as a starting point to find other sources, but do not include Wikipedia itself as a source in your
paper.
Also, please submit your document as a Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF file only. PDF
is preferred because of differences in different versions of Word. If you have any
issues submitting in either format, please contact your instructor immediately.
