You are testing levels of gene expression for Rb1 in normal vs. cancerous cells and find that the mRNA levels detected by microarray are the same. However, when you measure the functional level of the protein RB1 (made from theRb1 gene) you find that cancerous cells have ten times more functional protein than normal cells.
