Explain how the combination of fusion and meiotic cell division makes it possible for two haploid cells each with lethal double-stranded DNA damage to produce four “healthy” haploid cells. Suppose that after fusion the resultant diploid cell underwent mitotic cell division (instead of meiotic cell division).
