You are part of a company that is looking to move to cloud computing. Your manager has asked you to identify the characteristics and advantages of cloud computing and how cloud services are used in business.

How can cloud computing benefit an organization?

PEER 1

Cloud computing is now a go-to for business establishments that want to save cost on IT resources. Organizations do not need a high up-front cost for IT infrastructure since part or all of their computing services or operations can be hosted on the provider servers, they can easily subscribe to cloud computing resources on-demand that suits their need and paid for the service as per their use.

Cloud computing offers scalability, allowing an organization to scale up or scale down their operations and storage needs easily as the case may be, providing flexibility for an organization to use only what they need and when they need it. Instead of purchasing and installing expensive software/hardware and upgrades, hiring on-site skilled IT management to manage and troubleshoot IT infrastructure, the cloud computing service provider can handle all these, freeing up more time for the organization to focus more on meeting the needs of their customer.

Out of the three main models for cloud computing(IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), I would recommend IaaS(Infrastructure-as-a-service). IaaS simply means on-demand availability of infrastructural resources. IaaS allows users to exploit benefits from provider’s infrastructures by reducing the costs related to maintaining an on-premise infrastructure, allowing companies to reduce both human and technical resources and focus those resources on activities of higher strategic value for the business. Apart from scalability, elasticity and cost reduction IaaS offers, Its also helps a business to comply with norms and security standards. For Businesses where IT is not part of their key-processes, Cloud adoption allows them to delegate IT services to companies whose core business is centralized on these activities. This provides the customer with constantly up to date security policies and dedicated technologies and infrastructures available at both national and international levels

Cloud computing could benefit an organization because of the available resources online. The software and hardware are built and configured by the provider that makes them available to businesses online. New updates are pushed to the client computers online. Information are available anywhere in the world via internet access. Cloud computing improves businesses’ productivity, cash flow, increases efficiency, and offers a variety of cost-saving, time-saving benefits. Compared to traditional method, cloud computing reduces capital investment and smaller running costs. It’s easier to back up data and recover or restore them with cloud computing. When we think about it, every time, we lose our devices, we are more concerned about the valuable data stored in the device such as contact information. With the different features of cloud computing it’s easier to recover all the data back again. However; an important aspect to consider, is the identify whether or not the business could meet the requirement for using cloud computing. I believe that internet speed plays an important role on the requirement.
