Having been brought up in an Adventist home and having attended Adventist schools for most of my life, I have realized more and more what role a
strong spiritual foundation and an educated mind play in this ever changing
world. A foundation established in fellowship, in strong character, and a willing heart to serve, these are values that have come to define me as a Seventh Day Adventist and these are the values I see in Loma Linda University.
The university and the people that work within its walls share this common
goal to extend its hands of servitude where they are needed most. This
beautiful testament to Gods message is what I find most attractive about
Loma Linda University.
The university always emphasizes the needs of the weak and the abilities of the strong. Putting themselves in a position everyday to serve those
who come seeking Gods Kingdom. Along with a strong message the university furthermore equips the students with a solid education and the tools
necessary to continue to spread the gospel well after they have left the walls
of a classroom.
When I was ten years old, me and my family moved from India to the
United States. As a ten year old I found it challenging at times to adapt to a
new country and a new way of living. Forced to make new friends and embrace a new society, I always found comfort within a spiritual environment.
This was a safe haven for me and a place of growth as well. As I grew older
and learned to adapt to my new home here in the US, my spirituality was still
my anchor that reminded me of who I really am. This anchor planted in Gods
word is what pushed me to embrace a new life and also new challenges. This
strong hold in spirituality and fellowship is something that I found that also
resonates within each employee, student, and individual at Loma Linda University. I want to be a part of that spiritual anchor and build my spiritual
foundation more by connecting, serving, and learning.
Along with a passionate heart to serve the university also encourages
its students to be fearless in ministering. Providing a solid spiritual foundation they rest a strong educated mind upon that foundation for each student.
That preparation and knowledge arms each student and employee to go out
and serve a world that otherwise would not know about the Good Message.
That is why I have chosen to apply for higher education. To apply for the
knowledge to minister, and the courage to serve, and the wisdom to teach.
Advance education will give me the tools that I otherwise would not be
equipped with to fully serve. To be able to minister to people who I would not
be able to if it were not for my education, is why I have chosen to take the
step in attaining higher education. Through this education and its process I
know I will learn many new things as well as the resolve to face many new
challenges. However, that is what God has called us to do. Not to rest within
the comforts of our home or secure jobs, but to embrace new obstacles to
face them with a spiritual bedrock and an educated mind. It is through facing
these challenges and obstacles that I will gain further knowledge about my
particular field of work. However, through embarking on the journey of facing
these new challenges I know my faith will be tested, but it will also be build
my faith as well.
Loma Linda University is a place where I can grow in all aspects of my
life. As well as make connections that will be rooted in spiritual ground. That
spiritual ground is the same foundation that has kept me rooted since I was
born, since I moved to the US, and will continue to keep my rooted in attaining higher education. I want Loma Linda University to be a part of my life, not
only educationally but also spiritually. For I know that an education rooted in
spirituality also brings with it the seeds to servitude and gratitude.
