The primary purpose of formative task halfway through your module is to stimulate and focus your thinking regarding the assessment task(s) in the above table. This also allows you to receive feedback from your tutor regarding your focus on the assignment to ensure that you are on the right track. It also acts as a warning that assignments will need to be submitted soon. It takes more than a single draft of an assignment to get good marks. This is the first step in the planning your assignment.
Part A (30% of Module mark) Group Presentation

In October 2014, Tesco asked some of its executives to leave their posts over its profit guidance overstatement. This has had a significant impact on Tesco in terms its market share, expected profits and internal management.
In your presentation:
1.Discuss Tescos internal and external environment
2.Explain the leadership and management style demonstrated by Tescos board during this period
A copy of your presentation and a 100 word summary of the presentation MUST be submitted on Newlearning by 9th January 2015
Part B (70% of Module mark)- Using the same Case Study – Assessment due: 09th January 2015
Your case study report should be 1750 words (excess writing will be disregarded).
With reference to the case study write a 1,750 word report addressing the following tasks:
1. Discuss Tescos internal and external environment. To what extents were its problems caused by factors within these environments?
2. If you were appointed Tescos new CEO, what leadership and management approaches would you embrace in order to ensure that employees remain committed and motivated?
3. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Tescos current organisational structure.
4. What recommendations would you propose to help ensure that Tesco avoids similar problems in future?

1.The report structure must include:
-Executive summary: a very brief format of the report that summarises the main issues, background, analysis and conclusion.
-Introduction
-Body Paragraphs (your research results and analysis put into a coherent argument using your own words). Remember to support your answers and arguments with relevant theories, management models and suitable examples wherever appropriate.
-Conclusion, (your final evaluation that flows from your analysis).
