13 Jun OPTION #1: ASSIGNMENT ANALYSIS
In EDT 110, you are asked to complete what we call “flexible assignments”: assignments that offer multiple options for completion, but have a common set of goals and evaluation criteria.
Below, you will find options for Flexible Assignment #2, including detailed descriptions of what I will expect for each option.
Option #1: Assignment Analysis
This option allows you to analyze the assignments for one of your courses. Identify a course, and write a summary of each major assignment. In addition to the summary for each assignment, you should also include two substantial paragraphs: one paragraph describing what you think is the PURPOSE of that assignment, and one paragraph reflecting upon how analyzing the assignment’s purpose has made you think differently about that assignment.
Goal for this Option: Demonstrate your ability to analyze assignments and understand course requirements as outlets for deep learning.
Final Product: 3-paragraph essay (summary, description, reflection) for each assignment in your chosen course, to be turned in on Canvas.
Option #2: Study Guide and Sample Test
This option allows you to create a study guide and sample test for one of your courses. Utilize the study strategies and self-testing techniques we’ve discussed in EDT 110 to create a 2-3 page study guide (including key concepts and important information) for one of your courses, as well as six sample test questions that you might encounter on an upcoming test or exam. Finally, write a half-page reflection on what the process of composing this study guide was like for you. How did it challenge you think differently about the course material? About your level of preparation for the course? Use these questions to guide your reflection.
Goal for this Option: Demonstrate your capacity for creating self-directed study aids and self-testing.
Final Product: 2-3 page study guide; six sample questions; and half-page reflection essay, to be turned in on Canvas.
Option #3: Academic Practice Log
This option allows you to significantly reflect upon and analyze your academic practices. Keep a detailed log of the steps you take in completing any of the following tasks:
â— Completing a major assignment
â— Preparing for a test or examination
â— Working in a group project
â— Another major academic responsibility
While keeping the log, try to aim for at least one week’s worth of entries. After completing the log, write a page-long reflection essay. What does this detailed inventory of your process reveal about you as a learner? What were your successes? What do you intend to do differently in the future? Use these questions to guide your reflection.
Goal for this Option: Identify, think critically, and substantively reflect on some of your major academic practices.
Final Product: A descriptive log of your process in completing a major academic responsibility and a page-long reflection essay, to be turned in on Canvas.
Option #4: Choose Your Own Adventure
This option allows you to design your own Flexible Assignment #2. Choose one or more of the concepts we’ve discussed in class thus far, and find a creative method for applying/demonstrating your understanding of that concept to your academic, personal, or professional life.
Goal for this Option: Creatively demonstrate understanding of key course concepts.
Final Product: To be co-determined by student and instructor. If you intend to choose this option, you must e-mail me with your idea at least 48 hours in advance, so that I can offer feedback on it!
