Public Health Issue: Cheap drugs are common in our communities today, and this has led many
people taking advantage and abusing it.
Reason:
It is a very growing problem in the past decade and needs to be more of a concern in
our society. I want to find out how it is affecting the youth and how it is becoming a huge
problem. The dangers of abusing these pills are far greater than what most of these teens think.
Teens are the most vulnerable to these types of drugs because many factors. This ongoing
problem should be dealt with because it looks like it can affect our future generations.
Many young people do not know just how dangerous prescription drugs are. Because a
doctor prescribes prescription drugs, young people have a tendency of believing that these drugs
are safer than illicit drugs such as cocaine or heroin.
Prescription drugs can be relatively safe and beneficial. Unfortunately, they are not
always being used as directed. The abuse of prescription drugs is a big problem that needs to be
addressed. Each day in the U.S., 2,500 youths between the ages of 14 and 17 try prescriptions for
the first time. If we don’t do something about it, the problem is only going to get worse. The
abuse of prescription drugs in teens has seen a jump in numbers only in the past decade. It’s
continuing to become a problem as I am witnessing it around me today. It is an unfortunate thing
to be seeing but I am sure the number of abuse can be reduced if the users and potential abusers
can be informed about the dangers.

Most community action plans can benefit from recruiting partners—individuals or organization that might help with the solution to the public-health issue. These partners may have money, special tools or skills, and other resources.
Create a list of at least 10 local partners who might be willing to help you implement or develop your own community action plan. Look ahead to Chapter 12 in your text for more details about how to identify stakeholders in your chosen community. Your list must include the potential partner’s name, comprehensive contact information (job title, address, phone, website, and any assistants’ names), and a short explanation of why you think he/she/it would be useful to your project. List why you think that particular partner might be interested in joining your effort—that is, what is the benefit to the partner in doing so?
Your partners could come from the following (don’t be limited by this list):
Government officials (state, regional, local, or federal)
Local health/public health department agent(s)
Nonprofits or nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). Think broadly. For example, consider national and local organizations (e.g., men a’snd women’s organizations, schools, government-funded services, and volunteer organizations).
Businesses. Businesses often help fund or implement community projects.
Schools. Colleges or universities may have grants, special departments, or clubs/organizations.
Churches or faith-based organizations
