1.What is textual criticism and why is it significant to interpreting the New Testament? In your discussion, be sure to include the following areas: (b.) the classification of the manuscripts, and (c) translation theories (with versions as examples of the theories).
2.In interpreting the New Testament, why is it significant to understand the transmission history of the New Testament? In other words, why is it important to know how the New Testament developed from its oral history to written documents?
3.Why are New Testament methods important to know? In your response, discuss the major paradigms of New Testament interpretation and some of its tools of analysis and what they aim to do.
4.Why is it important to know the historical context of the books of the New Testament? Provide an example of why understanding the Hellenistic period and Jewish history and Roman history are all relevant to interpreting the New Testament.
5.Why is understanding the Two-Source (or Four- Source) Hypothesis important to understanding the Synoptic Gospels? Provide an example from the Synoptic Gospels.
6.Why is understanding the literary identity (or characteristics) of each Gospel important to interpreting the New Testament? Provide three examples from each of the Gospels.
7.Based on Pamela Eisenbaums book, discuss why is it important to understand Pauls Jewish background? Discuss three principles of the New Perspective on Paul that challenges the traditional Christian interpretation on Paul?
8.Based on class lectures and readings, what is the best way to reconstruct Pauls autobiography from the Pauline tradition? In other words, discuss the difference from reconstructing Pauls autobiography from Acts compared to Galatians for example.
9.Discuss why is it important to understand the form of the letter to understand Pauls letters (authorized and unauthorized)? What are the three rhetorical species discussed in class and the basic pattern of an ancient letter? Apply it to Galatians
