Proposal Essay
Purpose
To write a proposal argument of 1600-2000 words based on the issue that you addressed the cause(s) or the effects of in your Causal Argument. Follow the principles in Chapter 12of Everything’s an Argument, and study the characteristics of a proposal on pgs. 275-279.
Assignment
Your essay must cover the following aspects of your issue/proposal, though some will receivemore attention than others:
What issue does the proposal seek to address?
Is the underlying issue real and significant?
Is the proposal specific and well-planned? Why or why not?
If the proposal is not well-considered, why is it being advocated?
Once you’ve addressed these issues, you have the following options:
Explain that the proposal will not effectively address or solve the underlying issue, AND
Explain that the issue could be better addressed by an alternative proposal, and briefly
outline that proposal and explain why it is a better one, OR
Explain that as you’ve researched the issue you’ve changed your mind and now are for
the proposal.
Audience: For this assignment, you will write for a professional and scholarly audience including professors, college students, businessmen and businesswomen, and other researchers of your topic.
Sources: You must use at least 6-8 sources, (only three of which may be sources that you used in your casual argument) and you must accurately give credit for the information you use from those sources.
