Question
Part I:
In the Web site link given in the assignment description, you will see an interactive map of the world titled
GMD Measurement Locations. You can zoom in and out and move the map around within the window. In
the map, choose 5 sites that are labeled with a star, which will have CO2 concentrations. Follow the steps
below to fill in the data table:
1. Click on a starred location. (One site will not have CO2 concentrations.)
2. Once the starred location opens, on the right side of the screen, click on the pictured graph Examples

of Data for CO2.
3. Once the graph opens, make a note of the CO2 concentrations from previous years to present day. Fill

in the table below.
4. Repeat steps 13 for all other locations.
5. Use these results in your lab report to help you assess CO2 concentration trends from 1990 to 2005.

Part II: Write a 1-page lab report using the following scientific method sections:

Purpose
The purpose of this lab is to determine how much Carbon Dioxide is in the air. I am also going to
determine if the carbon dioxide will continue to pollute the air due to the human errors of our ways.

Introduction
During my research I have found the information on the carbon dioxide to have disturbing results.
The pollution varied between the 5 different locations but in all stayed around the same. Without the trees to
help absorb the pollution we will always be having dirty air to breathe. Too much carbon dioxide can cause
serious health issues and even death in some cases.
Hypothesis/ Predicted Outcome
My hypothesis is that, if we do not replace the trees we keep cutting down we will have a very
serious problem in the future. The only way around this is to find a way for us to burn a more clean fuel and
to not cut down more trees. Without trees the air cannot be recycled and turned into oxygen by
photosynthesis.

Results/ Outcome
After looking at the results of all the information which was provided by the link to the M.U.S.E. and
GMD link. I was able to determine what will happen further down the rod if we do not change our ways and
help our planet. Pollution and carbon dioxide will be bad enough to where we will where some sort of
breathing apparatus.
Discussion/ Analysis
My results are not to the point or on the money, but it is very easy to see what will happen if things
are not changed. In the years to come the pollution levels will reach a toxic level if the planet or humans are
not destroyed. People will have to wear a mask to breathe or stay indoors. This not something I want. Over
the next 40 or so years the carbon dioxide will rise, but not at a deathly rate.

Assignment Description
Student Instructions
For each assignment, you will use the M.U.S.E. link to complete the lab. Access the M.U.S.E. by clicking on Learning Materials.
In this lab, you will gather data about CO 2 emissions using the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Web site (Earth
System Research Laboratory, n.d.) to help you write up a scientific report centered around known phenomena of CO 2 emissions,
related to the following question:

Would you expect to see an increase or decrease in CO 2 emissions in the data over the past 40 years? Why?

Sources of CO2 Emissions
Using the M.U.S.E. link, review the background information, and access the Web site to gather your data.
Use the Lab 3 worksheet for assignment instructions and data collection.
This assignment will also be assessed using additional criteria provided here.
Please submit your completed assignment.

lab
report
using
the

following scientific method sections:

Purpose

Introduction
o

Hypothesis/Predicted Outcome
o

This is an investigation of what is currently known about the question being asked. Use
background information from credible references to write a short summary about concepts in
the lab. List and cite references in APA style.

A hypothesis is an educated guess. Based on what you have learned and written about in the
Introduction, state what you expect to be the results of the lab procedures.

Methods
o

Summarize the procedures that you used in the lab. The Methods section should also state
clearly how data (numbers) were collected during the lab; this will be reported in the
Results/Outcome section.

Results/Outcome
o

Provide here any results or data that were generated while doing the lab procedure.

Discussion/Analysis
o

In this section, state clearly whether you obtained the expected results, and if the outcome was
as expected.

o

Note: You can use the lab data to help you discuss the results and what you learned.

Provide references in APA format. This includes a reference list and in-text citations for references used
in the Introduction section.
Give your paper a title and number, and identify each section as specified above. Although the hypothesis
will be a 1-sentence answer, the other sections will need to be paragraphs to adequately explain your
experiment.
When your lab report is complete, post it in Submitted Assignment files.
