Represent addition and subtraction in a variety of ways (with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds, acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions or equations)
LESSON OBJECTIVE
Perform addition and subtraction sums correctly, Reason quantitatively and abstractly and make sense of the problems involving the two operations by correctly solving different sums
Anticipatory Set
As this lesson deals with numbers, students with ability to count to ten and in the correct order will be most appropriate. Also those students with a mind to identify the printing numerals will also benefit the student a lot.

Differentiated instruction:
Use both visual and audio representation during the class.
Students can create a number book from zero to five and then write all possible calculations
Modeling
Let three students stand in front of the class.
Let one student to hold a big cross which will be an addition sign. Let another pupil hold up a minus sign. Let the students name the symbols and what they mean before doing sums about them.
These are the basic signs to be experienced in class.
DOK- Level 1: They should recall these signs for future calculation
DOK- level 2: skills and concepts- you give the students digits 4 and 8 and ask them to use either the plus or minus sign to get an answer equal to 4.
