A discursive essay on the Civil Engineers contribution to economic, social, environmental and sustainability issues.
Each student produces an individual essay which is a personalised and reasoned view on ;
(i) the past and present contributions of Civil Engineers to environmental protection, sustainability and the welfare of society. 50%
(ii) the future potential of Civil Engineers to make positive contributions to these areas must also be discussed with particular reference to the Low Carbon Construction Action Plan (link to the Governments response below), and the JBM document Engineers For Low Carbon (link below). Include in your discussion whether you feel the 2050 performance targets will be met. 50%
Your own opinions are welcome, but suitable examples and references must be presented to support your arguments/opinions.
