For this assignment, we are following the case study example of Melanie Lowes Colliding Feminisms Britney Spears, “Tweens,” and the Politics of Reception. Lowes essay questions the extent to which the opinions of young teenage girls are affected by the media, and to what extent they are shaped by other factors. You are free to select a topic of interest to you, but the central question will remain the same: how do different groups/individuals negotiate their identities and beliefs, and what are the forces that determine them? In addition, we will ask what effect the presence of an observer will have on group behaviors and attitudes. You will organize a focus group in which to ask these questions. The Lowe article should some guide in shaping both the focus group session and the paper itself.
Given the experimental nature of the assignment, the paper should be written according to APA format. While there are numerous variations, your paper should include the following sections To closely follow their example, you should have an abstract and keyword section, but write those after the paper itself has been developed. You should also include an appendix where you include the practical questions you asked of your subjects. Additionally, please note that while there are five sections listed here, you should not limit yourself to five paragraphs; each section should probably have at least a couple of paragraphs depending on the subject matter.
1.Abstract: using about 350 words, give the reader an overview of your research.
2.Introduction- Provide an overview for your reader of the topic you are researching and of its relevance to a larger community. What hypothesis are you interrogating? Discuss the theoretical questions you were interested in exploring.
3.Method: Participants and Procedures- This discussion will include the context of the conversations that took place as well as a visual (table) illustration showing the demographics of your group, and how you worked with those members.
4. Analysis/Results: Pay close attention to the information that you received and find a way to organize it. For example, look for patterns or commonalities in the responses and then also take note of any discrepancies or look for recurring themes in the responses. Depending on your topic, examine how the responses varied according to age, gender, etc
5.Synthesis and Evaluation/Discussion: In this section, try to”make sense” of the information you analyzed aboveconsidering the limitations and implications of your study. Primarily, concern yourself with what your analysis reveals regarding your theoretical questions.
6.Conclusion:As with most conclusions, use this section to provide some closure to your discussion as well as leave your reader with something to ponder..
