Follow the below steps to complete your close reading and discussion of Elizabeth Bishops “The Fish.”
1.Review the in-depth analysis of the poem at the Bedford St. Martins site:
2.Read three (3) of the literary elements as applied to the poem (click the tab for Elements of Poetry).
3.Read two (2) of the literary analyses of the poem (click the Critical Approaches Tab).

After reviewing the background information and assigned readings provided for Sharon Olds and Wole Soyinka and their two powerful poems exploring race relations, you are asked to compare and contrast the poems in your initial discussion posting of at least 150 words and to respond to at least two (2) fellow students postings in no fewer than 50 words.

Remember that you should use the close reading method and/or the explication method given in this module to gather evidence and quotes from the poems to support your thesis.

For the poems, you are to read:
1.“Telephone Conversation” by Wole Soyinka
2.“On the Subway” by Sharon Olds
