06 Jul assignment about SPSS
This Final Project counts 100 points to your overall grade. It is an INDIVIDUAL project. You should write a report based on the statistical analyses performing via SPSS by the date set in D2L. You MUST use SPSS to make tables and graphs, and perform the statistical analyses for Question 1 to 8 then copy your output and write the findings to your report based on the order of the questions. You should write your executive summaries and conclusions based on the requirements in the questions to complete this project. After you complete your report, you should upload this report as a PDF file or Microsoft Word document to D2L Dropbox. You should also upload the SPSS file (.sav) with selected cases to D2L dropbox.
Introduction of the data set:
This data file contains nutritional information and grocery shelf location for 77 breakfast cereals. Current research states that adults should consume no more than 30% of their calories in the form of fat, they need about 50 grams (women) or 63 grams (men) of protein daily, and should provide for the remainder of their caloric intake with complex carbohydrates. One gram of fat contains 9 calories and carbohydrates and proteins contain 4 calories per gram. A “good” diet should also contain 20-35 grams of dietary fiber.
The followings are the names of the variables and the meanings of the associated variables:
Variable Names:
1. Name: Name of cereal
2. mfr: Manufacturer of cereal where A = American Home Food Products; G = General Mills; K = Kelloggs; N = Nabisco; P = Post; Q = Quaker Oats; R = Ralston Purina
3. type: cold or hot
4. calories: calories per serving
5. protein: grams of protein
6. fat: grams of fat
7. sodium: milligrams of sodium
8. fiber: grams of dietary fiber
9. carbo: grams of complex carbohydrates
10. sugars: grams of sugars
11. potass: milligrams of potassium
12. vitamins: vitamins and minerals – 0, 25, or 100, indicating the typical percentage of FDA recommended
13. shelf: display shelf (1, 2, or 3, counting from the floor)
14. weight: weight in ounces of one serving
15. cups: number of cups in one serving
16. rating: a rating of the cereals
Please randomly select 48% of cereal cases by using the random sample function in SPSS. Notes: You should perform the “Random selection” in SPSS. Make sure you save the selected data to a new file and upload your new data file to D2L. If you do not use SRS cases for data analysis, 30% of the grade will be took off.
Format:
a. A title page specifies your First and Last Names and the appropriate title for the project (2pts).
b. Have a page number on the upper right corner (2pts)
c. Attach your graphs and tables and conclusions/summaries followed by the orders of the questions. If you do not answer questions followed by the orders of the questions, you will be deducted 3pts for every question. Number the answer based on the order of the question (2pts).
d. Please use the font of “Times New Roman” or “Arial” and the font size “12”. Three points (2pts) will be deducted if you use other style/font.
e. You may use double space when you state your summary/conclusion. If you do not follow this format, 2pts will be taken away.
f. Make sure upload your PDF/Word file AND SPSS “.sav” file to D2L. If you fail to attach either one of the two files, you will miss 5 points for each file.
Questions: Please Use SPSS to answer Question 1 to 8; you can use your calculator for Question 9 of and part (b) in Question 5
1. Make a Pie chart to present the “Manufacturers” of the Cereals. Make sure you show the name of the manufactures of cereals on the table. You may use # of count or % to show your data in the graph. Change color on the pie chart. You may also show both (# of count and %) in your summaries. Make sure you have a “Title” for the Pie Chart. Write one paragraph (at least two sentences) to describe your findings.
2. Make a Bar graph to show “Type” of the Cereals. Make sure you show the name of the type on the table. You may use # of count or % to show your data in the graph. You may also show both (# of count and %) in your summaries. Change at least two colors on the bar graph. Make sure you have a “Title” for the Bar graph. Write one paragraph (at least two sentences) to describe your findings.
3. Make a Histogram to the variable of “Protein”. You may use # of count or % to show your data in the graph. Change color on your graph. Describe how you examine whether the distribution is right skewed, left skewed, or symmetric. Is there any outlier by “eyeballing” this Histogram? Write one paragraph (at least two sentences) to describe your findings.
4. Make a Stem Plot to show the distribution of the variable “Sodium”. Describe how you examine whether the distribution is right skewed, left skewed, or symmetric. Is there any outlier by “eyeballing” the stem plot? Write one paragraph (at least two sentences) to describe your findings.
5. (a) Make a FIVE-point Summary and Box plot to the variable “Protass”. Make sure to write one paragraph (at least two sentences) to describe your findings. (b) Use the rule of Inter quartile range (IQR) to detect any outliers. Please use your calculator to perform the rule of IQR and show your work for full credits.
6. Make ONE table to show the mean and standard deviation Sx to the variables “Calories”, “Carbo”, and “Sugars”. Please show the associated unit of the measurement for all the variables in the table.
7. Make the following Scatter Plots and a Table of the associated Correlation for
a. the response variable “rating” and explanatory variable “Fiber”
b. the response variable “rating” and explanatory variable “Calories”
c. the response variable “rating” and explanatory variable “Fat”
Make sure to state and describe the meaning of the “Coefficient of Correlation” for the Correlations you found in (a) to (c) by the way we learn in class. Make sure you point out whether there is any outliers. Please point out the one with the most and the least strongest among the Pearson r’s you found in this question. Write one paragraph to describe your findings.
8. Run the Linear Regression analyses for (a) to (c) in question #7 INDIVIDAULLY. In every regression analysis, you have to provide the regression equations and the associated R2 for each least squared regression line to predict “Rating” Please explain the meanings of slope and y-intercept of each individual least squared regression line and the R2 to these least squared regression equations independently. Specify the variable BEST variable to predict “Rating” of the Cereal.
9. If the population standard deviations () for the variables Calories, Carbo, and Sugar are known and shown in the following table, and assume the population distributions for Calories, Carbo, and Sugar are approximately normal.
| Variable | Calories | Carbo | Sugars |
| Std. Deviation () | 19.484
per serving |
4.279 grams | 4.445 grams |
Please calculate the 91% confidence interval (CI) to estimate population mean for Calories, 85% CI to estimate population mean for Carbo, and 99% CI for to estimate population mean for Sugars. Show your work for full credits
Please describe the meanings of the confidence intervals you obtain in this question. Make sure specify the associated unit of measurement for these three variables.
Please use your calculator and show your work for question #9.
