| One clinical service line wants to invest in wireless laptops to make record keeping easier, faster, and more accurate. In order to prepare a successful proposal, several departments will need to be consulted to obtain electronic, security and financial data in order to create a comprehensive proposal. One way to gather data for the proposal would be to develop a committee or focus group comprised of Health Information Management (HIM) department representatives, Operational Information and Technology (OI&T), service line representatives including providers and nursing stakeholders, as well as fiscal department staff and a facilitator from Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to keep the discussions focused and moving toward the goals of the organization. Why is input from are all these departments necessary for this committee? First there must be an understanding of why this proposal has been brought up for discussion, and to understand where any difficulties may lie. This can be accomplished by surveying the staff, possible utilizing an anonymous survey or a discussion board on the organizations website. Another important aspect for data collection is a discussion with OI&T to look at any requests for improvement or corrections/fixes for the current system (Murray, Giovanni, Klinger, George, Marinacci, Getty, . . . Haas, 2013). Also, data security must be analyzed through the HIMs department by pulling records at any breaches and/or near misses, looking at any privacy issues and data entry issues with the current system and suggestion for improvements (Murtaza, 2012). Finally, a facilitator is necessary to help keep the committee on task, and focused on the goals of the group as well as the goals of the organization (Watling, 2015).
