Specifics of Course Assignments
The instructor will provide grading rubrics that will provide more detail as to how this assignment will be graded.
Case Analysis 1
Hazel part 1 & 2. For this first case, the paper should include a summary of the entire case and responses to each of the questions. This case examines the operations function for a specific business and the current trends in that business that impact operations management decisions. Analysis concerns a general scenario involving discussions about customers, strategies, productions, and interactions with the local community. This case not only requires analysis using material from the textbook but also informed decision making based on facts, data, and research.

Case Analysis 2
Tip Top Markets. This case involves an analysis of quality and quality control solutions using various quality tools. The case analysis should be treated as a problem presented by a company’s top management for analysis and decision recommendations. Hence, it should demonstrate the qualities of thorough and relevant research, logically sound analysis, and focused professional writing. Students will prepare a executive summary, analysis with recommendations, and attachments of the data. 1. Executive Summary: This should be prepared as though it was being delivered to a high level executive and have a professional “look.” Outline the case, the case problem(s) and the recommendations. The executive summary should be concise (approximately one page). 2. Analysis: Discuss each problem for each recommendation. The analysis should demonstrate knowledge of the topic and the quality of the research. The analysis should demonstrate critical thinking skills, which may involve presenting multiple solutions to the problem, analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of each alternative solution, and then recommending the strongest alternative. The analysis should demonstrate the application of course material. 3. Attachments: Attach any relevant data and calculations that was used in the analysis.

Case Analysis 3
Havey Industries. This case involves an inventory management system. The primary problem is stated in the case. As a consultant, make recommendations to management concerning this problem. Provide an Executive Summary similar in format to the one developed for Case 2. Use the Problem Solving Steps listed below to complete the analysis and to make the recommendations. Recommendations are not to be confused with suggested solution in step 6. Recommendations for the case problem will embody steps 6, 7 and 8. The following steps will be written in a professional format and be an attachment to the Executive Summary. PROBLEM SOLVING STEPS: Step 1: Summarize the Case • Take notes on events, issues, relationships, actions and reactions. • Write a summary focusing on key events, decisions, actions and counter actions. • Be succinct, avoid extraneous details. Step 2: Identify the central problem. • The problem is stated in the case. Restate it here in your own words. • It is important to note the difference between the primary problem and symptoms of this problem. Step 3: Justify problem. • Present factual evidence for the problem. • Inferences must be supported by the events in the case and logically drawn. • Use concepts from the course to help support your justification. Step 4: Identify potential solutions. • Document potential solutions (3-5) to the problem, ensuring that each logically flows from the problem definition. • Solutions should not be a series of steps. • Each solution must be a separate solution that, if implemented, will solve the problem on its own. • Each potential solution must be supported by logical reasoning and examples. • Potential solutions should reflect integration of course concepts. Step 5: Reframe (analyze) key elements of case, paying particular attention to the efficacy of your potential solutions (This does not need to be written into the report.). • Reframing is a re-capitulated summary that expresses your conclusions based on fact, inference, course concepts, and scholarly research. Step 6: Propose a specific solution. • Based on a review of the potential solutions, course concepts and scholarly research, select one of the solutions analyzed in step 4. Step 7: Justify your specific solution. • Fully support your solution in step 6 by citing course concepts, tools, outside research, etc. Step 8: Develop a plan for implementing (e.g., a Gantt chart) and evaluating (e.g., control plan) your proposed solution. • Any plan should be well documented and reflect support for your strategy and tactics from the course and reflect a clear understanding of the course’s central concepts.
