In an essay (2,200-3,000 words), you will analyze a contemporary global social problem (i.e. world hunger, national debt, terrorism, infant mortality) by an exchange theory’s theoretical framework resulting in the theory explaining the social problem and Parsons’s stage model of social evolution in relation to globalization.
In order to do this, you will use the two theoretical perspectives to create a theoretical synthesis to understand the global social problem, keeping in mind the audience (your instructor) for this assignment. The synthesis will proceed through a number of sections:
Section 1: Create an outline for the rough draft of your essay, taking into consideration the topics to be covered in each section of this assignment. Use the “Outline and Gathering Resources Worksheet” document to organize your writing. Next, fully explain the two theoretical perspectives. (500-750 words)
Section 2: Fully explain the global social problem. (500-750 words)
– Include demographic information from the country.
– State global ranking of the issue for the selected country.
Turn in Sections 1 and 2 in Topic 3 for instructor feedback. Use this feedback to revise your work.
Section 3: Create a theoretical diagram of the synthesis. Decide your starting point to create a synthesis of the theories and the global social problem. You will use concepts from exchange theory and from Parsons’s stage model of social evolution as variables in the theory. The diagram ends with the expression of the global social problem. Therefore, you will start a point A and end at point B, which is the global social problem. The starting point can be a certain type of exchange or a stage of social evolution. Hint: A completed diagram can help you with structuring the writing of the paper.
Turn in Section 3 in Topic 5 for instructor feedback. Use the instructor feedback to make necessary revisions.
Section 4: A synthesis and analysis of the global social problem through the two theoretical perspectives. This section includes a summary. (500-750 words)
Section 5: Conclusion. This conclusion is not a summary. The conclusion will tell the reader what you, as the theorist wants him/her to take with them after they have read your analytic synthesis (500-750 words).
Turn in Section 4 and 5 in Topic 6 for instructor feedback. Use this feedback to revise your work and compose the rough draft of the final paper:
