Week 2: Concept Activity (10 pts)

Objective: in this concept activity you will practice using APA format. You will (a) practice identifying improperly formatted information from a scholarly research report and (b) create a reference sheet.

Directions: Download the .doc titled ‘Week_2_Concept_Activity.’ Follow the directions provided to complete the activity. When you are finished, upload your completed concept activity as a .doc to the assignment link on Blackboard. You will complete this week’s concept activity in two steps. In step 1, you will identify whether or not a re-written paragraph is plagiarized or not based on the in-text citations provided in the paragraph. In step 2, you will read through a list of citations provided in a references sheet and identify if there is anything wrong with the citation and how you would fix it. Make sure to use the text, lecture information, and APA formatting handouts provided to help identify the proper format for in-text citations (Referencing in-text citations_guide) and references list (References_list_citations_guide).

1. Below is an original paragraph from a research report (research article). Read through the paragraph. Following this paragraph are examples of re-written paragraphs that use this information. Read each one and identify (a) if it is plagiarized or if it is properly cited, (b) if it is plagiarized what makes it plagiarized, and (c) what, if any, corrections would you make to fix the paragraph so it is not plagiarized. (10 pts)

2. Below is a list of citations from a references list. Read through the list and identify whether or not each citation adheres to APA format. If it does not, explain what you would do to correct it (10 pts).

Due: January 20th (11:59 PM)

Step 1 (5 points)

This is an original paragraph from a research report (research article). Read through the paragraph. After this paragraph are re-written paragraphs that cite this information. Read each one and identify (a) if it is plagiarized or if it is properly cited, (b) if it is plagiarized what makes it plagiarized, and (c) what, if any, corrections would you make to fix the paragraph so it is not plagiarized.

From: Kunkel, Wilson, Robson, & Olufowote, 2004, p. 27

“The goal of intensifying a romantic relationship is associated with the potential threat of appearing overly dependent more so than starting or ending such relationships. Individuals attempting to further solidify the commitment of a relational partner are vulnerable to looking as though they are “needy,” “clingy,” or too attached to their partner.”

Example #1: The goal of intensifying a romantic relationship is associated with the potential threat of appearing overly dependent more so than starting or ending such relationships. Individuals attempting to further solidify the commitment of a relational partner are vulnerable to looking as though they are “needy,” “clingy,” or too attached to their partner.

Example #2: The goal of intensifying a romantic relationship is associated with the potential threat of appearing overly dependent more so than starting or ending such relationships. Individuals attempting to further solidify the commitment of a relational partner are vulnerable to looking as though they are “needy,” “clingy,” or too attached to their partner (Kunkel, Wilson, Robson, & Olufowote, 2004).

Example #3: When individuals want to intensify a romantic relationship, there is a potential threat of appearing over dependent. In attempting to solidify the commitment of a relational partner, they may be vulnerable to looking as though they are “needy,” “clingy,” or too attached to their partner.

Example #4: “The goal of intensifying a romantic relationship is associated with the potential threat of appearing overly dependent more so than starting or ending such relationships. Individuals attempting to further solidify the commitment of a relational partner are vulnerable to looking as though they are “needy,” “clingy,” or too attached to their partner” (Kunkel, Wilson, Robson, & Olufowote, 2004, p.27).

Example #5: When individuals want to intensify a romantic relationship, there is a potential threat of appearing over dependent. In attempting to solidify the commitment of a relational partner, they may be vulnerable to looking as though they are “needy,” “clingy,” or too attached to their partner (Kunkel, Wilson, Robson, & Olufowote, 2004).

Example #6: When individuals want to make a romantic relationship more intense, being overly dependent is a potential threat. In trying to solidify the commitment of another person, they may seem vulnerable to looking as though they are too attached to their partner (Kunkel, Wilson, Robson, & Olufowote, 2004).

Example #8: When individuals want to make a romantic relationship more intense, being overly dependent is a potential threat. In trying to solidify the commitment of another person, they may seem vulnerable to looking as though they are too attached to their partner.
