Be sure to discuss the Calvinist ideas of predestination and calling, the practice of moral economy and its eventual decline, the Enlightenment, and the Second Great Awakening. 2. Explain how during the period 1607-1800, it seemed that oppressing people of color often formed the basis for increasing freedom and opportunity for white men. Make sure you explain how racism became a tool for exercising and justifying this oppression. Be sure, also, that you discuss the transition to slavery in 17th century Virginia, the impact of the Declaration of Independence on African-Americans, as well as the relations between white Americans and Native Americans in colonial and revolutionary America. You will have to use the documents that will be attached to cite.
