Global issues
I have chosen two global issues, namely: “Wealth disparity” and “Bullying at the workplace.”
How I choose global issues
The two global issues have been experienced in our daily lives. When choosing I considered issues that are surrounding my life and have an impact in my life. Firstly, when I consider “Bullying at the Workplace,” this drew my attention since I have many people I have read and heard from them complaining how they have been harassed at the workplace. I developed the interest in knowing what might be the cause of this problem and how it can be solved. Moreover, there are reliable sources of information that will be in conducting in-depth analysis to help me in addressing this issue. Moreover, when we consider the “wealth disparity” it the problem that is experienced the world and different governments are working hard toward addressing it. Therefore, having a worldwide problem, there will be enough and reliable sources to help me in addressing it. Lastly, I am interested in knowing which effective solutions can help in reducing the gap between rich and poor because personally I am affected.
Ways of analyzing sources to find out whether they are credible and scholarly
I will find out who published the source? Is the publisher of the book or article recognized? The key reason for the publication.
According to Lowry & Richardson (2007), one should consider the content of source and what kind of information is provided. Is the information provided by article or book well-researched and valid? Are the references provided quality and up to date? Is the information provided up to date?
Who wrote the book or article? What are the personal credentials of the author? such as past writing, educational background, experience, etc. Has author’s name being cited or any other source available?
One should also consider whether the information or content published is firsthand information or not?
Journal articles that will support “ Bullying at the Workplace” global issue.
Here are the journal articles that will help in addressing the issue of “Bullying at the Work Place,” namely: “Depression in the workplace: An economic cost analysis of depression-related productivity loss attributable to job strain and bullying” and “Supervisory Bullying, Status Inequalities, and Organizational Context. Social Forces”.
The article “Psychopathological Dimensions of Harassment in the Workplace (Mobbing).International Journal of Mental Health” explains the psychological effects that are linked to harassment at the workplace toward workers or employees. Additionally, second journal article talks about the causes of bullying and how they impact the performance of employees and company or organization as a whole.
Why are the journal articles helpful?
The selected journal articles will be helpful when handling this global issue “Bullying at the Workplace” because they contain up to date information, and are valid articles thus making them the best article to refer when addressing harassment at the workplace. Moreover, they have good and adequate information that is required when addressing this issue in deep. The authors of these articles focus on the main issue which is bullying at the place of work thus making them provide quality and reliable information. Additionally, as per Cooper (2016), one should consider whether the publishers of these articles are recognized and have a positive reputation to find if an article is helpful or not.
