For my final project, my proposed method for gathering data would consist of subjects who work as mental health professionals and social workers. The goal is to have an important sample size in order to make our study reliable and in order to have results that can be statistically significant.

However, the study will be focused on individuals who have at least 3 years of experience in these areas of expertise. It would be ideal to have subjects from many states and countries (if possible) and they would be randomly selected as final participants of the study. It would also be ideal if the subjects were an equal number of males and females in order to prevent gender biased results.

Since the project focuses on burnout, once the subjects are selected, they can be administered the Maslach Burnout Inventory. Their scores will then be recorded, and kept in a private place for privacy protection.

The subjects will be following a program about meditation, exercise, and food. I am not sure yet if I will go with the three of these but meditation will definitely be part of the study.

The program is to be followed for 8 weeks. After the 8 weeks, the subjects can take the Maslach Burnout Inventory again, and we could compare the results with the previous results that were gathered before the 8 week program.

For the proposal, the proposed method would be to randomly select youth from either a juvenile care facility, detention center, residential treatment facilities, group homes, and foster homes, specifically those considered to be at high risk for becoming involved with the specified care or juvenile justice systems. Data would be collected from youths examining the mental disorders and prevalence of mental disorders within the juvenile population in an effort to understand adolescent development and mental health needs. I am still developing this part of the paper. Not quite sure if I’m on the right track for the proposed method.
The data collection instruments that could prove to be beneficial for this proposal are the The Massachusetts Youth Screening Instrument(MAYSI-2) and the Children’s and the Severity of Psychiatric Illness (CSPI) Scale.
The MAYSI-2 is a brief pencil and paper instrument that is designed to screen 12- to 17-year-old youths in juvenile justice settings, for a range of mental health symptoms. Its purpose is to facilitate detection of current or recent mental health problems experienced by this population (National Youth Screening & Assessment Partners, 2016). Evidently, it was designed to identify and alert staff to potential mental health needs of youth who might require immediate attention.
The Children’s Severity of Psychiatric Illness (CSPI) Scale is used to evaluate the youths’ mental health needs. Additionally, it is
structured around five areas: symptoms, risk factors, functioning, comorbidity, and caregiver characteristics. It has been shown to be an accurate and informative measure of mental health service need and clinical symptomatology (Crisis Assesment Tool, 2016).
I know there could be others that would fit the current topic. Evidently, I may add to the data collection instruments based on relevance to the topic.
