q1) According to Schneider and Goldwasser (1998), the classic change curve is the comparison of typical and effective progress of a change. It compares the performance on X axis and time of the Y axis. In a nut shell the curve portraits how organizations tend to set high expectations at the start and then tend to over correct.

Menninger (1975) talk about different ways in which curve has been explained. Dr Walter Menninger, who was a psychiatrist used the curve at a Peace Corps US training facility. During the first phase he explains that the moral of the volunteers was high as they studied culture and language of the assigned overseas sites. Second, step was when the volunteers reached the sites and they came in direct contact with the practical issues that they would be facing there. This resulted in depression as they saw their new plight. They also had a sense of loss when they saw how privileged they were living in the US. After around an year the volunteers accepted their situation. At this point the volunteers set aside they can not control and focused on the things they can. This was the time they had the highest productivity. The final phase was when they had to flight back to the US. They faced similar challenges that they faced when the started the journey. They were going back as different set of people, even though it was just going back home. Menninger concluded that his findings could be applied to many other situations too, beside the one mentioned above. Whenever a person takes a new role or changes his living situation, his or her sense of him/her self undergoes changes,” reflected by the classic change curve.

2)Our organization believes in using reducing the use of paper. Some research also suggests that its cost effective as well as can be deployed as a tool to increase productivity (Jackson, 2003). Therefore, our company has resorted in a big way using the electronic messaging. We use emails for formal communications and as also those that involve third party, outside of the organization. While that is being said, emails are also merged with appointment calendar using Microsoft- Outlook software to schedule remote meetings using Zoom, GotoMeetings and Webex softwares. For an immediate as well as informal communications Slack software is used. It hides the actual phone number of the person and is a strictly closed user group. It conforms to the privacy laws.

The downside of using emails is that there are always too many of them to read and respond. This does take time. Also, the language used in emails could also be confusing, depending upon the language skills and frame of reference of the person (Ruggeri, 2000). While the use of emails have had a considerable impact on the ease and speed of communications within the organization as well as outside of it (Lucas, 1998), we are often advised to restrict the use of emails and the content within it so as to value the time and patience of others to whom we write.

3) I work for Healthcare company, and my company uses Windows and MS office suite for their operations. I use advanced MS Excel and MS PowerPoint in my day to day operations at work. Not only this, I also use Tableau and Visual Dashboards to analyze data and create visuals for senior leadership.  We use Slack to communicate about multiple projects with the group. We use Trello or MS project as our project management tools. We use WebEx and conference call in to schedule conference calls or group meetings. For the basic in-office communication, we use skype for business.

If this internship becomes my long-term employment, there would definitely be some changes with the technology that I would like to implement. I would try to implement better communication channel over the skype. We have this as a tool as an in-office messenger but employees do not use it frequently, so I would prefer changing that and make it more useful and accessible. I would like to add salesforce or any similar CRM tool for operations.
