Literally corporate social responsibility mainly refers to the obligations that all businesses possessed towards customers, governments and society. Even more important, as it can be learned from this module’s materials that expect for social responsibilities, businesses also assume responsibilities, including economic, legal and ethical ones to all social members. Considering this, it is safe to conclude that corporate social responsibility is crucial to our society.
Firstly, when viewing corporate social responsibility from an economic perspective, the fundamental goal of all businesses is to make money, as Rachel Hutchisson mentions in the video that “Even big companies care about giving back”. Meanwhile, more job positions and higher pay levels will be achieved by those businesses, therefore, businesses shoulder their economics-related corporate social responsibility of earning more profits for both themselves and people who work for them.
Secondly, when seeing it form the legal point of view, the module lecture tells that corporate has to engage in law-abiding behaviors. When a business operates following laws and with civility, it means that its produced products and offered services tend to make its target customers reassured to purchase and enjoy.
Thirdly, great importance should be attached to emphasizing that all businesses should perform their ethical responsibilities. I prefer to categorize the ethical one into the social responsibilities that all businesses have for its community and the entire society. For instance, when a business realizes that its community demands material supports to held an activity for the disabled, it is proposed that the business should assume its ethical responsibility to give the support within its power. Then, it will obtain a good reputation within the community, and the community will be supported in this win-win situation.
