If the founding fathers could see the progression of our country over time, I am sure they would have made some changes in wording and in some cases added in a few lines. At the time of the Constitution, slavery seemed to be almost inevitably slowly dying out, so the fight to free slaves in the Constitution was dropped in the name of compromise. However, the invention of the cotton gin led to the explosive demand of slavery rather than seeing it die on its own.
