In a world where we are growing much more accepting of the LGBTQ community, the idea of a homosexual couple adopting children is becoming a less taboo topic and something more accepted. However to some this may raise as a problem and perhaps cause worry. In this debate I will be discussing the idea of homosexual couples adopting children and the pros and cons of this scenario.
People may have concerns about if the adopt children be raise the same as a homosexual marriage parent? Some people say it’s better for a child to be in a gay marriage home than in foster care homes. In the other hand, people say that same sex-marriage adoption can affect the mentally wellbeing of a child and they can be raise in a wrong way?
However, I believe that child can be raise in a wrong way even by heterosexual parents. Parting is a learning experience no matter the sexuality. A 2010 meta-analysis of 33 studies found parents’ gender or sexuality does not adversely affect child health or wellbeing. Gay and heterosexual couples deserve the same legal rights to adopt.
A child will likely grow up in a nice home with a stable family. The child will be out of a life in foster care or an orphanage. Research shows that children raised by LGBT parents grow up successfully as children raised by heterosexual parents. The child is likely to be raised more open-minded. The homosexual couple will get to experience the joys of parenthood just like any heterosexual couple would. Same-sex couples want to adopt a child and are usually older, more educated, and financially stable than other types of adoptive parents. Potential bullying for the child. Children do not grow in an environment not having well-balanced adults. There are people saying that children should have role models from both sexes.
Ways to solve this issue could be by looking at the states’ law and seeing is homosexual adoption legal, viewing the situation from different points of view and having a more open-mind to the idea that if a couple, homosexual or heterosexual, is capable of taking care of a child and providing a safe and loving home environment for the child, the opportunity should be there for both parties.
Therefore, homosexual adoption should be legal because a homosexual couple can be just as capable of raising a child as a heterosexual couple if the environment is safe and loving. The opportunity should not be taken away just because of someone’s sexuality. In my opinion, if a safe home environment can be provided for the child, the parents’ sexuality should not matter.
