ASSESSMENT DESCRIPTION – CREATIVE PRACTICE

As part of this task, you are asked to pick a creative activity (e.g. photography, painting, playing a musical instrument, sculpting, singing, dancing, writing etc.) that you would like to develop and to which you will commit yourself three to five times a week between the second and third workshop. It is important to choose a creative skill that you always wanted to learn or, if you aim to work on an existing creative skill, make sure to experiment and work on a new approach using that skill.

This challenge will help you get started on a new creative skill that you can further explore, but more importantly it will equip you with new self-developed strategies that allow you to better innovate in everyday habitual practices.

Task

At the end of the challenge, you are asked to write a 500-words reflection on your experience of regularly practicing the creative skill. Also, you are highly encouraged to submit bits and pieces of work that document the evolution of your creative practice and submit it in your creative practice journal on MyUni. This can include recordings of a new song learned or composed, pictures that you have taken if practicing photography, pictures of your paintings, etc.

As part of your reflection you are asked to address the following questions:

  • How did these routinised practices inform your creative skills?
  • How did this experience feel?
  • What have you learned about yourself from this experience?
  • How many approaches did you adopt to learn/improve the creative skill?
  • How does this experience relate to the creativity and innovation theories learned in class?
  • What did you learn about creativity and innovation from this creative practice challenge?
  • How might you use this skill and/or the learnings from this creative practice in different contexts?
