Construct a Utopian society that you think would best suit the needs and interests of human beings as the actually are. Describe in detail the policies and conventions that you would implement in your society (e.g. education policy, childrearing, the economic system, property ownership, gender relations, religion, the political system, the status of the nuclear family, general values and ethical norms) and explain why you think these policies and conventions would be maximally beneficial for those living in such a society.
Explain also what effect you think the policies and conventions you propose would have on the desires and attitudes of people who grew up in your Utopia, and how your society would be able to sustain itself over time. In your discussion, identify at least 3 ways in which the characteristics of your ideal society illustrate or conflict with the ideas of some of the thinkers whose works we have read during the course of the semester.

(c) Provide at least one historical example to illustrate and support your view as to why a Utopian society is an unachievable ideal. (d) What overall effect, if any, do you think that acceptance of the idea that a Utopian society is unachievable should have on how we view social progress and human history in general? (E.g., can any sense be made of the claim that society is progressing (or regressing) in certain ways if the presumed goal of such progress (namely, an ideal, perfect society) is unachievable? Can human history be viewed as having an overall goal or “telos” if the goal of realizing a Utopian society is unattainable?)
