This during class-time activity asks you to apply what you learned about Earth Systems Science in the pre-reading to a small “study site.” Scientists refer to the localized areas where they conduct experiments outside as their study sites- or places where they conduct studies. For this study, you will mostly observe and collect data. Next, you will illustrate and label your observations. Finally, you will examine the connections between the systems that you observe as you visited the study site.
Scientists often conduct lab experiments by observing and noting. This assignment is slightly different than the formal lab that we did in class, but you will still complete a lab report.
I’m asking you to do the modified version of a full lab report for a few reasons. First, writing for science is a skill that you’ll need when you take science classes in the future. Second, this gives you a chance to practice your writing and to get feedback from me. Third, it will give me a sense of how the lab impacted your experiences.
