(100 points and 25% of the course grade)
Assignment Guidelines and Rubric
This scholarly paper will focus on the nursing care to be provided to a woman who is a patient in the student’s
work environment (or a previous clinical environment) and is afflicted with an issue/topic that has been
discussed in the online discussion forums anywhere between weeks one and four of the NUR403 course. The
paper is to be a minimum of 5 pages in length but may not exceed 10 pages in length and must follow current
APA standards. The assignment must be completed using MS Word or other PC compatible software. The
final paper is due by midnight Sunday of Week Four.
Students are permitted to select any issue/topic that has been discussed in the NUR403 discussion forums
between weeks one and four for this paper. The issue/topic could have been an assigned one or one that was
introduced by a student. For this paper original support is needed – students must find articles and websites
beyond the resources used in the learning activities. The below criteria should be covered in the paper and will
be used to grade the assignment. Use the suggested level headings for each section of the paper. Include a title
page. Do not use first person (I, we, us, me).
CONTENT
1. Introduction – Introduce the paper and the women’s health issue/topic that is the focus of the paper.
State why this issue/topic was selected for this paper. (Remember to write the paper in third person.)
Do not use a level heading for the introduction. (3 points)
2. Significance – Report the significance of this women’s health issue/topic including the prevalence of the
issue/topic and the demographical breakdown of those afflicted with the issue/topic. Also include
national morbidity and mortality rates of this women’s health issue/topic. (9 points)
3. Possibility of Providing Care – Describe the work environment (or clinical environment) where care is
being provided. Relate the likelihood of providing care to a woman afflicted with the issue/topic in that
environment and why that likelihood exists. (6 points)
4. Assessments – Explain how this issue/topic would be assessed for and detail what assessment skills
would be needed to gain a full understanding of this issue/topic for the female patient. (8 points)
5. Holistic Care – Develop a minimum of five care strategies that the nurse should implement in order to
provide holistic care to a woman afflicted with the issue/topic of focus. (15 points)
6. Technology – Discuss a minimum of three pieces of technology or ways technology could be utilized
when caring for the woman with the issue/topic. (9 points)
7. After-Care Tools – The goal of providing medical care is to help the patient regain a functional level of
health and move out of the healthcare system back into their own lives. Recommend a minimum of
three tools or plans the nurse can provide the woman that she can utilize after she leaves the healthcare
system and returns to her life that can improve her life related to this issue/topic. (9 points)
8. Advocacy – Provide 5 ways a nurse can advocate for women afflicted with this issue/topic. Focus on
advocating at the local, policy, and national levels. (15 points)

9. Conclusion/Summary – Write a final paragraph summarizing key points and your conclusions on the
complete topic. (4 points)
10. References – The reference page details the information for the citations that you used throughout the
body of the paper. (2 points)

B. Mechanics (10 points)
1. The paper (title page, in-text citations, reference page, tables, & appendices) follow APA (6th
edition) formatting.
2. Citations of original works within the body of the paper follow APA guidelines.
3. The paper is organized with effective use of headings, font styles, and white space.
4. The paper is double-spaced using Times New Roman 12 point font.
5. Rules of grammar, usage, and punctuation are followed.
6. Spelling is correct.

Missed Exams/Assignments
Assignments must be submitted on or before the due date posted by course faculty. Students must contact
course faculty PRIOR to the assignment due date for approval to submit assignments late. 2 points per day will
be deducted from late assignments, regardless if approval for late submission was received. Assignments
submitted late without faculty approval will receive a grade of zero (0).
