The Assignment:
I am the CEO of a large health food company with distribution globally. Employees must be flexible, creative and adaptive. Besides the interview, I am looking for a tool that would help me to identify employees with these characteristics. I need your help in reviewing the personality test: NEO-PI to be used to identify likely candidates for employment with my company. Your assignment is to provide me with a review of the test, listing the advantages and disadvantages of its use.
The review should include the following:
1. Description of the personality test: Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Personality Questionnaire (NEO-PI) (10 marks). Include what is being tested and how it is being used
2. Any information you can find on reliability and validity (5 marks)
3. Discuss the theoretical orientation or paradigm and how the test relates to the theory. For example, is the test humanistic, behaviouristic, psychoanalytic in orientation. (5 marks)
4. Give some indication as to the ease of administration. What are the practical aspects of the NEO-PI test? Is it easy to score, do raters need special training, is it computer scored, handwritten etc. (5 marks)
5. Discuss why NEO-PI test would be useful for the above problem. Explain the strengths and limitations of the test. (10 marks) What is your recommendation with respect to the company needs?
6. Support your report with documentation. Include a minimum of five research articles which report experimental results using NEO-PI test. The research articles should be primary sources, reporting original research in a recognized journal of psychology. Summarize these articles in the body of your report ( 25 marks)
Solution Analysis
In this section you will identify the criteria that are most important to consider in choosing a policy option. Evaluation criteria might involve cost-savings, benefits to community, effectiveness in resolving the issue, or political feasibility, just to name a few. After identifying the evaluation criteria you will examine the various solution alternatives–options for addressing the problem. Remember that doing nothing may also be among the options you consider.
Goeller Scorecard
You will construct a Goeller scorecard to make a rational determination about which policy alternative is best. Goeller scorecards require weighting the criteria according to which is most important (ex: effectiveness may be more important than efficiency in some cases), then ranking the to the policy alternatives according to each criteria. The weights and ranks are multiplied to produce a score for each policy alternative. We will be doing an in-class exercise to give you some practice with this method. Here is an example:
