Almost from its inception, the personal computer marketplace became fragmented around choices about which operating system people thought was best or coolest, or about which choice of systems offered users the best integrated and reliable options versus price. But while that Apple vs. Microsoft debate rages on, look what’s happened: the basic idea of personal computing has profoundly changed. It’s not only about manipulating the contents of files anymore — it’s more about bringing streams of interaction to your fingertips, or to the blink of your eye.

Other portable device makers have entered this marketplace — Linux-based choices, Android-based systems (owned by Google), and other technologies are becoming more and more commonplace. Dual-personality systems (or “dual-boot”) are much easier to buy and operate. And the devices themselves come with the underlying OS buried further and further away from what the user interacts with.

For which kinds of computing and information systems do users really need to care about underlying technologies — which is what an operating system is? Which kinds of users ought to pay more attention to how well a variety of devices and applications work together (and how seamlessly)? Which kind of user are you? And… do you want to be the other kind?

The Online File Storage assignment has two stages. First, if you have not already done so, set up your file storage space in Canvas following the directions below. Second, you will write a reflective short paper comparing other popular online storage alternatives and submit it for grading.

1) Create Your Online File Storage Space

Canvas provides a file (Links to an external site.) storage area for students. In this file storage area, student can rename, organize, upload and delete files. The University determines the amount of storage space. It is a good place to store your course documents. Both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Eurocontrol (Europe’s FAA) actively research, experiment with, and deploy technologies in order to create a safer and more efficient airspace system.

An example is Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC), which in addition to the existing radio, creates a second channel for communication between pilots and air traffic controllers (ATC). Instead of keying the radio, ATC and pilots type instructions and requests and send via text messaging. This reduces ATC workload and frees up the radio channels for important communications.

Each desk space must have a wired network connection for a computer as well as wireless access for mobile devices. The budget must detail at least four expenses (rent, utilities, etc.) and show income (sales, etc.) for at least four months. Display on a single sheet. List the months in a single row horizontally.

Each expense and month should be appropriately labeled.

The spreadsheet must use at least four different functions/ formulas (to total, add, subtract, divide, etc.)

Must have a total column and total row for expenses and income. Use a function here with cell ranges.

Must have a row that has a formula showing net income after expenses. Use a formula here.

Include cells that show the average and also maximum total monthly expenses. Must use a function for these.

The Boeing 787 is a fantastic aircraft with versions capable of seating up to 300 passengers with a range of up to 8,200 nautical miles.
