Portfolio Project Description For the final project, you will put together a complete portfolio showcasing your fashion line. It will build upon everything you’ve learned so far in class as well as teach skills necessary to organize a coherently designed publication. The portfolio will be composed of a cover page, fabric board, posed models, flats for a three-piece outfit, and your advertisement..

Component Definitions Each of the above components have a number of considerations, as listed below.

1 Cover (PSD) This is a statement of purpose, an introduction to your fashion line’s identity.

You can think of it as an advertisement: it should be a collage which incorporates elements of the fashion line, which can be fabrics, photography, models, even quotations.

Must include a portfolio title and your name.

1 Fabric Board (PSD) A demonstration of the complete set of fabrics for your fashion line. The minimum is 6.

Patterns and prints must be self-created.

Each swatch must be properly labeled with color and material.

5 Posed Model Illustrations (each in their own PSD) You’ve already completed the initial draft of these in the second project.

We will learn a few new techniques you will use to revise these.

5 Flat Sets (each flat set should be its own EPS file) You’ve already completed these as your first project of the semester.

Portfolio Project File Format and other considerations

The portfolio will be at least five pages set up for letter-sized paper in landscape orientation (11″ wide, 8.5″ tall).

This portfolio must feel like a cohesive whole. Color palette, typography, graphic elements, and page compositions should reinforce and the identity of the fashion line.

File Assets Checklist Assets are the individul components you use to create a project. In this portfolio, these assets will be created in both illustrator and Photoshop, and these files will be placed in InDesign. This is the required minimum checklist of file assets for the portfolio project. All of these should be saved in the same folder as your INDD file. They will appear in the Links Panel in InDesign once you have placed each one in your project file.

Portfolio Project File management considerations Workflow You will be using Adobe Illustrator, PhotoShop, and InDesign to work on your portfolios. You should create a project folder so you can keep the file assets organized.

InDesign is a publication layout program, ideal for designing multi-page files. We will go over the basics of setting up publications and learn to use the program in conjunction with PhotoShop and Illustrator. InDesign works with linked files; in other words, when I place a PSD file in InDesign, the InDesign file refers to the folder where the PSD file is saved in order to load it. To avoid broken links, organizing your files is of utmost importance!

Since this is intended to be a print product, files must be set up for 300dpi resolution, CMYK color space. Any images you use should be high quality, and if not self-created, they must be public domain. You will use the same sites you used for the Fashion Ad project. Please check with me if you need help finding images.

Final Format • 1 PDF created from the INDD file. Upload the PDF (username_portfolio.pdf) only to the class IU Box folder

for this project.

• 1 printed portfolio. Portfolio must be bound in some fashion, determined by you. You each have been allotted $20 to your bursar account to compensate you for printing! I will discuss printing options in class.

Due Date PDFs and Print Portfolios due during April 27, 2017. Our final class will be devoted to portfolio presentations.
