Final Paper: Each student is to write a four to six page paper on criminal profiling and its use in law enforcement. This paper should have a title page, be double spaced and use at least 5 reference. The formatting style should be APA (link to reference for formatting tips will be posted in the on-line course room). This will be your final paper for the course and will be the topic of your presentation.The presentation will be done in the online course room as a video attachment. Each student is expected to give a 10 minute presentation on the criminal case they selected and the use of criminal profiling in that case. A power point presentation is usually assigned to accompany an in class presentation. Here in the on-line format you can do a PP for extra credit if you would like. If you do it should have a minimum of six slides. It is expected the student will be dressed appropriate for a presentation and present in a manner that fosters connection with the audience. While notes can be used, reading directly notes for the entirety of the presentation will result in a points deduction.For this assignment, each student must select a case study highlighting a criminal case from history where criminal profiling was used. This paper should discuss criminal profiling, the details of the criminal case selected and tie the two together to show how criminal profiling helped or hindered the investigation selected. The paper should be primarily about the selected criminal case with a brief overview of the background of the case and an in depth discussion on how profiling and this case interacted. The presentation should follow the natural progression of the paper. Again, reading the paper to the class is unacceptable and will result in a zero grade for the presentation.It is important that each student select a DIFFERENT case for this assignment. That being said, requests for topic criminals will be granted on a first come first served basis. It is mandatory a selection for this paper be discussed with this instructor by 3/17 in order to ensure you have sufficient time to do your research. All topics must be approved by the instructor prior to 3/17. If you fail to get approval on your topic a 25% point reduction will be taken on both the paper and the presentation prior to grading. This will have a significant negative impact on your grade. It is never to early to have your topic approved.
