My public health issue/topic is on Childhood Obesity in America. Use my topic (Childhood obesity in America to write the paper for the questions below).
Project should respond to the following questions:
1. (1 ½ pages) Choose a public health issue of interest to you and provide background information on the issue using a non-popular source (so CDC, WHO or HHS only). Not Wikipedia or any newspaper/magazine):
a. Define the issue
b. Who is impacted?
c. How are they impacted?
d. What are the health implications?
e. How is this group or population impacted differently than others?
2. (~1/2 page) Define the target population that is impacted by this issue that you would like to work with to address this issue and state why you are choosing to work with this target population
3. (2 pages) How are you going to address your chosen issue with your chosen population?
a. State what you would like to do to address your chosen health issue with the target population- i.e: run an educational program, facilitate a support group, run a media campaign, develop health literate materials to educate individuals about the issue, use advocacy to effect policy (grassroots/direct lobbying), etc.
b. Describe what it is you will be doing and why you think this is a good way to address the issue
c. Describe the logistics of how you would do this:
i. In what setting? (Clinic, community center, library, radio, local news outlets, etc.)
ii. Why is this setting best?
iii. Who would need to be involved besides your target population?
iv. State the goal for your chosen activity (make it SMART!)
4. (1 page) Develop material to go with your chosen activity. This could be, but is not limited to:
a. A flyer or brochure to explain a program or project
b. A handout of information about the issue that is health literate
c. A poster to advertise an event or program or issue
d. A basic lesson plan of an activity or activities you will do
e. A press release, PSA script, or short video
f. A letter to the editor
g. An op-ed
h. A short power point to go with an activity (about 5-6 slides)
i. Other ideas
