2) Give information about the author: who is s/he?
a) Then summarize briefly the text (250 words +):
• What is the objective (or purpose) of the author in this text (essay, chapter or article)?
Why did the author write it? Consult the introductory paragraph(s) …
• What is the thesis of the author, if any? What are the main ideas s/he presents?
• Is her/his point of view aesthetic, historical, critical, social, theoretical, critical, etc.?
(Or is it simply a praise of the artist and/or work? If so do not use it!)
• What is her/his conclusion? It should be stated in the end paragraph(s)
• Why does s/he come to this conclusion?
• Never forget that you are speaking in the name of the author in this part of your text, that you are paraphrasing and briefly citing when necessary. Therefore you should be using words like: “According to…”, s/he ‘says’, ‘writes’, ‘thinks’, ‘states’, ‘affirms’, ‘suggests’, ‘argues’, etc.
c) Finally, you must comment, criticize and analyse the text (250 words +):
• This part is personal: use expressions like “I think that”, “I believe”, “In my opinion”, etc.
• Is the text (essay, chapter or article) clear and well written or not? Is it comprehensive and clear? Why? How is it structured or organized?
• What are the strong and not so strong (weak) points of this text (essay, article, or chapter)?
• What do you think of it? Of the author’s point of view, arguments, etc.? Do you agree or not? Why?

• Explain why it is relevant specifically to your topic.
• Compare it to your other readings. How is it going to be useful for your assignment?
