1. If you have some experience in Agile prior to this course, describe the experiences you have and the knowledge or understanding you have currently of Agile.
I have been using Agile Project Management methodology in the past 3 years at my workplace. Though we are not a hundred percent agile, we try to use the methods that benefit our team and make our projects finish faster. Agile has become more popular in the recent times and often it has been misused in many organizations. Leaders who don’t understand completely the benefits of this methodology use it to micro mange teams which in turn reduces productivity. I have tried to create a balance by using Agile for tracking progress of our project everyday and finding any stopping points that can be addressed that help finish our tasks faster.
2. Describe how you think Kanban could be used in your organization
Using Kanban would definitely improve process in our organization. By using a Kanban board, we can track the progress of the project which gives us a better idea of where we are at and what needs to be done next. Most importantly it gives us the ability to have a streamlined workflow. It improves the way the team members work together. Deliverables are set for a shorter period of time and releases would be done more often so there would be less chances of errors.

I work in banking industry, in particular risk management, which means some of the agile concepts may not be readily related to my day-to-day work as in software development industry. As many of my work is not product/demand base, so I don’t really see a use case in my line of work. However, I can see how Kanban method can be used in our technology department where they host all the servers for us to run program on it. With a Kanban board/system, they could easily check the usage of servers by different departments and assign appropriate quota. The usage may vary in different time periods. For example, risk department may need a lot of server space when they are developing the risk models and accounting department may use a lot of server space when finalizing their quarterly earnings report.

The easiest would be “individuals and interactions over processes and tools” as I think it’s a general principle that will benefit across almost all industries. People could mean different things when they use the same word and timely communication is the best cure for misunderstanding. “working software over comprehensive documentation” would be the hardest as banking industry is a highly regulated industry. Most often, comprehensive documentation can not be replaced for regulatory purpose.
