(U) Situation.
(U) Area of Interest. The area of interest is the 230th MP BN’s Area of Operations (AO). AO Warrior, encompassing company AO’s Blue, and Green. AO Warrior extends from the Yevlakhvalley in the east, to the PK 44 grid line in the west, and from the 11 grid line in the north to the 60 grid line in the south. The main population centers are North Barda and South Barda. See Appendix 2 (Operations Overlay) to Annex C (Operations).
(U) Area of Operations. The Company’s Area of Operations (AO) is AO warrior. AO Blue’s major city is the city of Barda. It is a small provincial town located in the northern section of the AO. Barda is an important town and road cross junction. The area consists primarily of agriculture, mainly cotton and tobacco, silk production and a large built up area. The area around Barda is a mixture of built up area and scattered fields with narrow passages and connecting roads and tracks. It has mostly rural agriculture with several small farming communities.
(1) Terrain. AO warrior consists of a thickly populated urban area. Observation and Fields of Fire are limited which favors the small groups of enemy. Avenues of approach are the connecting crisscross improved roads. This aspect favors the enemy and friendly forces with the ability to move in and around the city. Key terrain in AO blue are the school and hospital. Observation and field of fire is limited due to the thick population and vegetated area. Visibility is also reduced varying from 100 to 500 meters due to the built up area and vegetation. This favors the enemy as they can approach the security forces being undetected. Cover and concealment is available in the form of highly populated areas and thick vegetation in the area.it favors both enemy and friendly forces operating in the particular area. Advantages to the enemy can be mitigated through the support from 270th MP CO QRF and through engaging the populace with narrative and campaign.
(2) Barda contains many buildings as it is a relatively urban area. Several schools, mosques, and hospitals are within Barda. Central Barda also contains a vital bridge, which divides the city into North Barda and South Barda. The neighborhood around the suspected hide site is comprised of numerous residential and commercial buildings. Most buildings have a similar construction. See Appendix 1 (R&S Overlay) to Annex L (R&S)
(2) Weather. Weather impact on the operations is minimal. There is a small chance of precipitation. Maneuverability on MSRs and ASRs will not be affected by weather. Moderate temperature during the day will not affect operations, however, temperatures will be reduced significantly during night hours.
