Unpack the composition of this cell or page as analytically as possible, demonstrating how the visual, verbal, thematic, and plot elements work together to produce a rich impression or message. Read very closely. Use your graphic and verbal literacy; show awareness of the strategic combination of rhetorical and artistic choices that Bechdel makes in composing this page or cell. Describe what you both see and infer from these combinations and choices. You are especially interested in how the cell or page is composed visually, not just what happens in the story at this point.

It is easy to drift over into matters of plot alone. Try to remain focused on the graphic “composition” of your chosen frame and how its visual presentation (including both images and text, as well as other contributing factors to its appearance) is strategic.
Please read your classmates posts first so that you dont choose a passage that has already been covered.
In addition, respond to at least one other post about a different cell (or page) by providing additional observations and insights.
Have fun with this. People with art history backgrounds (or creative gifts) will have special skills to bring to this exercise, but I think youll learn from everyones close reading. Its just that for this graphic novel, “close reading” means something different than it has for our earlier novels. (Draw on whatever experience you have that seems relevant to the assignment. It might be in photography, photoshopping, sculpting, drawing, movie-watching, or other unexpected areas.)
