In this assignment, the purpose of the figure is to visually support your essay’s guiding idea or thesis statement. 2. Write a well-crafted essay. You will be assessed on (a) content/ideas and (b) written mechanics/formatting, including your use of the APA reference style. Your assignment must include the following components:

• Logical structure: Your written essay should have a beginning, middle, and end. The guiding idea or thesis statement should be presented in the first paragraph; the bulk of the essay should then logically present evidence addressing your guiding idea or thesis statement; and your ending should conclude your paper.

• Critical engagement with scholarly literature & References: You must use 4-8 scholarly sources in crafting your assignment (i.e., books or journal articles), and clearly demonstrate how the scholarship is helping you understand and reflect on your own experiences with music. (Perfunctory references must therefore be avoided.) You must use the APA style when referencing these sources (with regard to both in-text citations and your reference list). Please note that the 1,500 words excludes the reference list.

Tips: • You are encouraged to write a little bit of this essay each week (or make notes

towards it) following each lecture/tutorial. • Follow APA formatting guidelines and use spellcheck to ensure your written work is

free from spelling and grammatical errors.
