In the last semester, I have taken a fourth year Economics course, which had been all about putting knowledge built from four years of studying Economics, applying to real life Economics, and making an overall presentation of what we learned and generated. Such presentation had been a strenuous job, for not only had it been a group presentation, but also our group members had different interests throughout university years, which meant we had different background knowledge in Economics although we studied in the same university. To begin with, each of us shared our knowledge specifically and tried to gather up our intelligence so that we could expand our knowledge pool. This required respect and valuation of each member’s specialization and their cultural background as well. Such diversity could become an advantage when it can be used to expand one’s perspective in learning. Finding strengths and weakness of each group member, the second important step we went through was to distribute work equally. This could have been a difficult task since there is no clear definition of equity. However, this equity be easily met with our cooperation. Taking one’s strengths as an advantage, we did further research in our tasks which in the end resulted as an efficient group work. When collaborating in a group, every individual has to be respectful and supportive so that such work can result in the best outcome. In teaching, I’ll value group work to the extent that every student can respect others and be cooperative. And????
