Question
HPI: Kayla (mom) is back to visit 2 months after the initial visit with Riley, the now 20 month-old male child. Riley has developed a nocturnal barking cough and runny nose with low-grade fever over the last 2 days. The mother has noted that the cough sounds like barking and that the usual administration of Cetrizine syrup (half a teaspoon once daily PRN congestion and OTC children’s acetaminophen infant drops) has not been beneficial in relieving symptoms. There was a fever of 101 yesterday evening, tympanic measure. Copious clear rhinorrhea was reported. There was mild anorexia, but drinking well. The mother denies other associated symptoms.
PMH: The sister has also had a cold over the last week but is improving. There is no change in daily medications. There were no interim visits to any other healthcare providers or illnesses since the last visit in the office.
