Week 4 Assignment: Finding the Right Career

Objectives:

• Identify different types of careers within the media and entertainment industries.

• Identify career opportunities that best reflect your interests and aptitudes.

• Describe how your chosen degree relates to your desired career path.

There are many careers in the media and entertainment industries, but how do you know which one is right for you?

You want to pursue the careers that you know are best for you, keeping in mind your knowledge, strengths, weaknesses, and career goals.

For this assignment, you will be researching different job descriptions to identify the right career for you and determine the companies you’d like to work for.

Instructions:

Present the following to the class in a narrated presentation format:

✦ Find two entry-level job postings or internships (not management) on a company website or in a trade publication that you would like to have. Include a screenshots or images of the posting.

✦ Find one secondary-level job positing, basically the next position you would eventually like to apply for after your entry-level job. Also include a screenshot or image of the posting.

✦ Why do you want these jobs? How are they steps in reaching your long-term goals?

✦ Take an inventory of what skill sets and qualifications each job is looking for. Explain which ones you currently have and which ones you need to start working on.

✦ What are some things you can start doing to build on your skill set and qualifications?

✦ What local associations, unions, clubs, etc. would you want to join to be qualified for the position?

✦ Lastly, include which future classes you think will help you best prepare for the job posting and describe why you feel that way. Go to the Full Sail University website (www.fullsail.edu). Review all of the classes (and their descriptions) that are in your degree program.

Requirements:

1. Create as a Keynote slideshow with a narrated voice-over or submit a script to go along with your presentation.

2. No less than 8 slides including a Title slide at the beginning and a Reference slide at the end.

3. It must be 3-5 minutes in length.

4. Use visual images to illustrate your answers. Do no write paragraphs on slides. Take what you’ve learned from Creative Presentations and apply it to your assignment.
